Ernst P. Strobl, Salzburger Nachrichten, 3.8.2011

Oh Petra,
How funny that there should actually be a reference to our little discussion – fantastic, but as you rightly say, how amusing that not one of the comments is from London, but rather from all corners of the globe!!!

Our discussion is even mentioned in a German online newspaper!!!

saying in the PS that on Simon’s Homepage there was a dicussion about the fire extinguisher and that it was made clear “in remote London where the photos can be seen” that there was no accident. ….. the journalist just did not know that Kew writes from Japan and the other comments came from persons in USA and Australia and Devon (UK) but NOT London! 😉

Hello Petra,

Thanks for the information. Relieved to know that Cherubim and that Guth’s UNQIUE direction were left behind.

Cheers

What a fabulous bit of lateral thinking! Shock and Joyous Hilarity all round I expect. Wonder if the other performers had to struggle not to giggle when singing? Sigh. Thank you so much for all this info – it really helps close the gap. Now, how many cheese sandwiches…..?

The idea that Simon grabbed the fire extinguisher as there was nothing else backstage is hilarious. Little wonder everyone laughed!
Yes thank you very much for these photos, Petra. It looks as if it was a great night and everyone looks so happy and relaxed in the “curtain calls” as it were.

1. It seems that there was no axe to find backstage and the only thing which seemed to him appropriate was the fire extinguisher. There was NO Accident! The audience went mad with laughter and it was the talk of the intermission!
2. NO they did leave that second Cherubino at home in Salzburg – THANK HEAVEN!

Hello Petra,

Tons of thanks for the fabulous photos! Would you please let us know the following?
1. Why did Simon have a fire extinguisher? Was it his stage gismo or was he indeed in an emergency? (Suppose the former is the case, though)
2. Did Cherubim sit on Simon’s shoulder and “harass” him during the “hai gia vinta la causa!” aria even for the concert performance?

Cheers
