Simon Keenlyside, a further cancellation and another recovery.

by Sylvain Fort

Simon Keenlyside’s health problems have forced him to take a break of three months after his catastrophic Rigoletto in Vienna, which he had to abandon during a performance. The British baritone notably returned to the stage in Japan in the role of Macbeth. Not having fully recovered, he had to cancel his Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera in November and his recitals in December in Strasbourg, Vienna and Brussels as well as his participation in the run of “Ballo in Maschera” in Vienna in January (officially because his wife is in poor health and he has to look after their children).

The baritone has officially said that an unexpected scan result after his throat surgery meant that he had to have another operation to partially remove his thyroid. As a result Simon Keenlyside has had to cancel his concert “Simon Keenlyside and friends” scheduled for the 26th January with his musician friends which was a program of jazz at the Wigmore Hall. At the moment his Schubert recital on 31st January at the Wigmore Hall is still in place. We hope he has a full recovery in 2016 and that the future projects of this great artist succeed, we miss him.
